Did Sorenson Steal the VRS Idea?

Writer's picture: Deaf from HELLDeaf from HELL

Updated: Jun 23, 2020

James Lee Sorenson, born hearing with no sign language skills and the owner of Sorenson VRS, did steal the idea of VRS off his brother-in-law, who is Deaf.

Nice story. It’s become part of American lore. But it’s partially not true.

In reality, the concept of using the technology to provide video relay interpreting was proposed, developed and launched by Jon Holmes Hudson as promised for ownership shares.

James Lee Sorenson did almost nothing, but only his warm congratulations were delivered to Jon--no ownership shares. Disgusted and victimized, Jon walked out on Sorenson in 2016 after 10 years of "dirty work".

Discuss and investigate.
